BENEFITING: LEAP FOR LUPUS FOUNDATION
Lupus research is extremely important, not just because it is something my amazing sister (Valinda) battles with, but immune issues in general are not researched enough. It was recently discovered, while mapping the DNA sequence, that at least some forms of autism are found in the same area as Lupus on the DNA chain. I have three boys on the autism spectrum, I have a brother with rheumatoid arthritis, we also have many food allergies in my family and I have my own immune issues.
I think immune issues effect more than most people realize. I think it's a severely under researched field and I think finding out why the immune overreacts (like it does in lupus or in more simple ways like food allergies) we can make more sense in why it underreacts as well. Any insights are bound to assist in a multitude of other issues. How can we not assist in such an incredible cause?
