Carmen Ledford - Hospital Donations
Organized by: Phil Ledford
Carmen is battling smoke inhalation from a fire that claimed her owners life. This page is to raise funds for Carmen's medical bills, but also for Carmen's vet who initally rescued her and for the 24 hour animal hospital that has been working around the clock to help Carmen and is currently seeing to her comfort and care.
The ongoing support for Carmen, and Carmen's family, has been overwhelmingly positive. The family is humbled by the generosity being offered to help Carmen.
Family & Carmen Update 2/16/2015: We're thrilled to announce that Carmen came home today! After almost two weeks of 24-hour care at Care Center, Carmen is strong enough to continue her recovery from home, with Ben's brother, Phil and the watchful eye of the entire family. Since coming off of the ventilator last Tuesday, Carmen has been growing stronger every day with the help of her daily Rehabilitation and her continued care. We were pleasantly surprised at her recovery after coming off of the ventilator and each day has brought new hope.
The team at the Care Center has treated Carmen like one of their own. We know that they are as excited as we are to see Carmen recover and will miss having her around. Visits to Care Center, for her check-ups and to just to say "hi", are in Carmen's future.
We still cannot find the words to truly express how much we appreciate the support we've received from everyone for Ben, the family and for Carmen. If it hadn't been for the vet who rescued Carmen, the Care Center and the support and donations from friends, family and pet lovers from around the world, we would not have been able to provide Carmen with the level of care that has allowed her to walk out of the hospital today.
We thank you for following her progress along the way and praying each day for her recovery. We hope you enjoy the photos of our reunion with her and our family. We appreciate everything, as you have shared in our grief as we mourn the loss of Ben, our hope for Carmen's recovery, and finally our celebration as Carmen heads home.
Family & Carmen Update 2/14/2015: Happy Valentine's Day from Carmen and the family. Carmen continues to improve every day. She's eating well, sleeping well and is doing physical therapy every day. All the activity is exhausting, but is worth it to see her start to regain her strength. She does not like her oxygen line and tries to rub it out as often as she can. Despite her improvment, she still needs oxygen assistance. The family is optimistic that she'll be coming home soon.
Family & Carmen Update 2/11/2015: Carmen is still doing well. Today she started Physical Therapy and she's working on being able to stand up on her own again, among other things. Because she's fully awake and alert, our visits are short. We want her to save her energy for PT. It's exciting to see her recognize us, try to greet us and give us expressions that show her personality shining through once again. We're still focused on one day at a time, though with each day that she continues to improve we have more hope that we will see her come home.
Our family continues to be amazed at the amount of donations, support, thoughts and prayers being said for our family and Carmen. We are still trying to find the right words to truly express our appreciation. Thank you, everyone, for your generosity. It is because of your generosity that we can concentrate on providing Carmen with the best care. Thank you!
Family & Carmen Update 2/10/2015: Today we laid Ben to rest. It was by far the hardest thing our family has ever had to do, though our spirits were lifted when we got an update on Carmen.... We're thrilled to share that she's improving! She was taken off the ventilator today and currently breathing on her own. As she comes out off the anesthesia, she's awake, aware and even moving around a bit. It was good to see her recognize the family and respond to our voices.
While we're not out of the woods yet and there is still significant care that she needs, her chances of survival have increased. We're hopeful that we will actually be able to take her home one day. Ben's brother, Philip, will be taking Carmen home if we get there, though she will continue to have the love and care of the entire Ledford Family.
Family update 2/9/2015: We want to tell everyone who is supporting Carmen and passing along their thoughts and prayers how much we appreciate everything. As we deal with the loss of Carmen's owner, our brother, Ben, it is comforting to know that Carmen has been getting the best care possible. As we receive them, we will continue to provide updates on our sweet, sweet girl.
Carmen status as of 2/8/2015, 11:00PM:
Carmen has overcome some of her previous setbacks and is slowly attempting to breathe without the ventilator but is still critical. We will know more midday on Monday. Her caretakers are keeping her comfortable and pain-free. The doctors and technicians have been wonderful in their love and attention to Carmen as well as their support to Carmen's family as they continue to deal with the loss of Carmen's owner, Ben Ledford.
