Carolina Kickoff 2014 Camper Scholarships
Organized by: Christian Payne
EVENT DATE Aug 13, 2014
Carolina Kickoff is an organization of UNC's Campus Y that hosts a camp for 175 incoming first-year students during the last three days of summer. As the oldest organization of the Campus Y, this coming August will mark CK’s 68th year of hosting Camp. During these three days, 40 student-counselors introduce first-years to social justice and student life. Our program includes speakers from the university—such as the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor, Mayor Kleinschmidt, various professors, student leaders and organization representatives, administrators from the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, etc. – along with student group performances, group bonding activities, and exercises designed to introduce new students to the Carolina Way to be ready for UNC.
This year, our campers will have to pay $175 per person to attend camp. Because of raised prices for camp rentals, food, entertainment, etc. required for our 3-day program we are challenged with fully covering the costs of camp. We are funded solely through the efforts of our counselors and kind hearted souls like yourself. With over half of our campers in need of financial aid this year, any outside support would greatly help! We consider Camp to be a great asset to incoming first-year students and want it to be an equal opportunity for all applicants, regardless of financial background. With your help towards this $175, we hope to provide more partial and full camper scholarships, making Carolina Kickoff 2014 will be the best ever and an incredible experience for new UNC students.
