Carolina Kickoff Camper Scholarships!
Organized by: Hunter McGuire
In less than a month, I'll be returning to the place where my UNC days began -- Carolina Kickoff! Two years ago, I was lucky enough to be afforded a camper scholarship that allowed me to attend CK, and now I'm hoping to return the favor to someone else! Scholarships are awarded based on financial need to cover all or part of the cost of attending camp.
This year, our campers will have to pay $175 per person to attend camp. Because of raised prices for camp rentals, food, entertainment, etc. required for our 3-day program we are challenged with fully covering the costs of camp. We are funded solely through the efforts of our counselors and kind hearted souls like yourself. With over half of our campers in need of financial aid this year, any outside support would greatly help! We consider CKamp to be a great asset to incoming first-year students and want it to be an equal opportunity for all applicants, regardless of financial background. With your help towards this $175, we hope to provide more partial and full camper scholarships, making Carolina Kickoff 2014 will be the best ever and an incredible experience for new UNC students.
About Carolina Kickoff:
For the last 68 years, the Campus Y has sponsored Carolina Kickoff as an informal introduction to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for 175 incoming first-year students. Each year, 40 counselors endeavor to paint a total picture of campus life in just three days, introducing students to social justice issues and student life at Carolina. University officials such as the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor Crisp, and representatives from the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs offer advice on how to best take advantage of the school’s resources and new initiatives. We invite professors from a range of departments, as well as members of career services and counseling and wellness, to provide tips on how to be a successful student at UNC. Students have the opportunity to sign up for student organizations, watch performances from some of Carolina’s best student groups, and learn cheers for UNC sporting events from Ramses, the UNC mascot. Carolina Kickoff 2014 will take place from August 13th-15th at Camp New Hope in Chapel Hill. Students move into their residence halls early before camp starts.
