"Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." Fluidly recognized when we return to our daily practice called life, travel creates a collective consciousness that generates humility, both in ourselves and our interactions with the world. Until there is awareness, however, there cannot be change. And true awareness comes from motivating people through something to which they will connect, such as a story, memory, event, picture, sight, smell, sound. Carolina to Kilimanjaro is an expedition to go out and gather these smiles, hugs, sounds of children playing, blue skies and Serengeti grasses. It is an evolving lesson in personal and worldly transformation impressing the importance of humanity and creating the earth we want – in our backyard and on another continent. We are all connected. And it is all our responsibility.
This bike trek across Tanzania works to create a “global community where people are connected to the resources necessary for social and economic prosperity”. Bicycles will be assembled and donated at each of the villages we travel and live with over a ten day period. The trip is organized so that I pay for my flight but raise the money for the bikes we will be donating and for the food and shelter the villages provide for us while there. All donations over $25 are tax deductible and will go directly to Globalbike. www.globalbike.org
