BENEFITING: JONATHAN CANCER FUND
We're riding for Caroline! On Halloween of 2011, on her first Halloween, Caroline was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at just 9 months old. Caroline had been sick for many weeks. She had unexplained fevers and multiple ear infections. No matter what was done for her or what medicine she was given, she just wasn’t getting better. Eventually, her body started to hurt. She no longer crawled or turned over. She was constantly in pain. Blood work revealed that something was wrong; something was very wrong. On October 31, 2011 her parents were told to pack their bags and drive Caroline to Golisano Children’s Hospital at Upstate and go to floor 11G. Every parents' nightmare--there was an oncologist waiting to see them. In that moment, their hearts sank and their world stopped. From that day on their lives would never be the same. Caroline spent the next two years fighting her cancer. She first spent 3 months inpatient while Caroline received multiple rounds of chemotherapy and many, many procedures. She celebrated both her first Christmas and first birthday in the hospital. Chemotherapy put Caroline’s leukemia into remission, and it hasn’t returned since!! It was a long two years but Caroline finally finished her chemotherapy in October of 2013. Her family celebrated with her Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World. Today, Caroline is an active, healthy, and happy 5year old. You would never know that she fought cancer as a baby and won! She is her family's little hero. It was a tough battle that has changed the entire family, but they are grateful that she is here with us today to grow alongside her big sister.
