THE STORY:

Dear Family and Friends,

As some of you may know, I am graduating from the University of Texas this May, therefore, in just a few weeks! It is hard to believe that these past four years have gone by so fast and is incredible to reflect upon how God has grown, challenged, and led me before moving into this next stage of life. My time at UT has been more wonderful than I could have ever imagined, but I am ready to move on to my young adult life knowing God’s faithfulness will only continue.

In September, I will be starting work as an Associate at The Boston Consulting Group in their Dallas office, which means that I have about four months for my “last summer ever”! After working this past summer as an intern at a similar company, it became clear to me that the job security and financial stability I will have as a 21-year old are far from normal, and not to be taken for granted. In short, I feel incredibly blessed. When evaluating my options of how to spend this time, I kept feeling that I wanted to spend it serving others, sharing the gospel, and grounding myself before entering the work force.

After a lot of prayer, I am excited to announce that I accepted an opportunity to serve in an administrative role at Daughters of Cambodia (DoC), a faith-based non-government organization reaching out to victims of sex trafficking in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, for two months this summer. DoC employs women who have escaped sex-trade in one of their eight businesses, including: cafes, jewelry making shops, a hotel, a spa, and more (http://daughtersofcambodia.org/). By employing these women, DoC gives them an ulterior form of income and also provides them with faith based counseling and support. DoC started in 2007 and since then has put 500 women through their incredible two-year program. Given the women stay at least six months, 98% of them never return to the sex trade.

During my time at DoC, I will be using my Finance degree and limited management consulting experience to help them restructure the finances and business models of their organization. I am not sure what lies ahead, but do know that I have the opportunity to love these women as Christ loves and to hopefully make a sustainable impact on an organization that can do this for a long time into the future.

Over the past four years, I have interned every summer and made a small income. In line with Deuteronomy 14:22, which states, “Make an offering of ten percent, a tithe, of all the produce which grows in your fields year after year,” I am planning to tithe 10% of all I have made in order to partially support myself in this venture. In addition to that though, given the nature of the work I was doing and the time period I will be in Cambodia, I am hoping to raise $3,500 in addition support for rent, meals, and transportation.

I write to you most importantly to ask for your support in prayer, but also to ask for financial support if you feel led or that it is within your means. I feel it is incredibly important to raise up a support group here at home that is behind me and that I can turn towards to share the joys of my work with as they come. If you have any further questions about what I will be doing, please feel free to contact me at anytime. Finally, if you choose to join me by supporting me financially, you may either support me by making a donation on my fundraising page online here or by mailing a check to my home address and making it out to “Caroline Cooper”.

No matter what, I am thankful to have you in my life and appreciate you taking the time to read about what God has been doing in my heart.

In Him,
Caroline
