Hello All, I'm sorry this e…
Hello All,

I'm sorry this email is coming so late after the race. I sincerely want to thank you all for all of your support raising money for Every Mother Counts for my NYC Marathon fundraiser. 99 donors helped raise $3855 to help promote maternal health around the world. Four weeks after the race I am still in awe of how that day went and how it shattered all my expectations. I ended up completing the marathon in 3 hours, 37 minutes, and 58 seconds!! I averaged 8:19 per mile, easily beating my goal of running under 4 hours.
It started with a night of about 4 hours of sleep at my sister's apartment in NYC (Thanks for the bed Daria!). Alarm was set for 4:45am but i was up at 2:45 mostly due to nerves, but also because it was impossible to sleep listening to the wind howl through the streets of NYC. After the bus ride to Staten Island, I was very glad that I had 4 layers of clothes over my racing gear because because it was freezing!!! Because of the wind advisory, the charity village was not allowed to have the walls up on the tents so, I kept as warm as I could before my 10:05am starting time. Right before I was called to the starting line, I discarded my sweats and long sleeves in the donation boxes and made my way onto the Verazzano Bridge, I reached into my pocket on the starting line to put my iPod on, only to realize, I donated it along with my sweatpants...oops!! It was actually one of the best things that could have happened that day, listening to the crowd roar and call out my name (which I wrote on my number) as I ran through the streets was so uplifting and really kept me going. As cold as it was that day, the only part of the race I felt it was the 40mph winds going over the Verazzano Bridge. Once that 2 mile stretch was over, I really warmed up and was really moving at a fast pace. When I reached the 19th mile and the EMC cheering station I really wanted to stop for some pictures with Lauren, Daria, Alexis, and Sandra, but I felt that if I did, I wouldn't be able to start running again and I definitely wanted to be running as I passed Mt. Siani Hospital at mile 23, where 2 years ago I hobbled out after back surgery!
As I crossed the finish line I couldn't help but think how lucky I was to have participated in the race this year after only deciding 2 and a half months prior to partner up with Team EMC.
