Studies show that the health of babies in the NICU improves with the consistent presence of a parent or family member. But that presence can come at a high cost. Carrie Meghie was fortunate to be there every day when her son Jackson Chance spent close to a year in the NICU in downtown Chicago, but her parking expenses skyrocketed. Extended parking can exceed $1,000 a month, making it challenging for many parents to afford to be there and leaving their babies to struggle alone. When her son Jackson died, Meghie started a program to provide complimentary transportation and parking to all NICU families, allowing for free, 24/7 access to their babies who are fighting for their lives.
