BENEFITING: CARVER FOUNDATION OF NORWALK INC
EVENT DATE: Jun 30, 2015
The Carver Alumni Campaign for Scholarships 2015’s sole goal is to raise and maintain $100,000 annually for the Richard N. Fuller, Sr. Scholarship Fund which will assist underprivileged and underserved youth with the costs of attending college.
Friends of Carver and Carver Alumni appreciate the value of a strong community and its children. We understand better than anyone else how much of a difference that Carver has made in our lives in the past and the difference that Carver continues to make in the lives of young people today. Most importantly as we know that it is essential for us to assist our community with providing building blocks towards a greater future through our children as their future is our future.
It is imperative for this generation of students and future generations of our students to graduate from high school on-time and prepared for college which better positions them to compete in the global economy and community. However, we all know that it is an even greater challenge for Carver students to afford and attend the college or university of their choice. We can help continue Carver’s cycle of success by providing financial resources that will sustain the goal of educating our children which will subsequently produce and prepare our “future leaders”.
Last year, Carver awarded $81,000 in college scholarships. Currently, there are 70 Carver students pursuing undergraduate degrees and 4 students pursuing post graduate degrees. Historically, Carver students maintained a 67% college graduation rate which has greatly improved from 2005 to the present to an 85% college graduation rate and youth membership in Carver’s developmental programs continues to increase which will increase the number of students enrolled in college in the near future.
Without the Friends of Carver and Carver Alumni support Carver may not be able to offer scholarships to its increasing number of college bound students in the future. In an effort to support and carry on Carver’s cycle of success the Richard N. Fuller, Sr. Scholarship Fund has been established with one goal in mind which is to raise funds for scholarships and the Carver Alumni Campaign for Scholarships 2015’s sole goal is to raise and maintain $100,000 annually for the Richard N. Fuller, Sr. Scholarship Fund.
On April 24, 2015, in celebration of the birthday of the late Richard Fuller, the former longtime and much beloved Executive Director of the Carver Foundation of Norwalk we will all gather at the George Washington Carver Community Center celebrate our community, reaffirm our goal of giving, and showcase Carver Alumni and Friends of Carver giving efforts.
