Casa Rombach: The House that Love will Buy
Organized by: Amy Gray
Hi Friends! Yardsale was a success- $1,000+ raised live and online - thank you!
August 16, 2017
Thank you so much for your kindness and grace.
All proceeds received go directly to the Rombach Family of Marblehead to benefit the Casa Rombach Recovery Fund. The family's youngest daughter, Chloe (now 25), was severely brain injured in December 2014 and has not regained full consciousness. Their family home URGENTLY needs modifications to allow them to bring her home and care for her. They are busily working on the renovations and I'd love to help them by covering the costs. Let's do this.
Full story on our Facebook page: Casa Rombach
On December 9th, 2014, Chloe Rombach (then 22 yrs old), stepped into a dark and rainy night to make the 10 minute walk to her job as a yoga instructor for Karuna Yoga in Northampton, MA. She never made it.
As she entered the crosswalk at Fair and Bridge Streets, she was struck by a car and dragged 150 feet. It took a team of firefighters to free her. The Rombach family entered a living nightmare that night and have been by the bedside of Chloe in the many days that have passed since the accident.
A few days after the accident, Chloe had an emergency double craniectomy (removal of two large portions of her skull) to allow her brain to swell and prevent further damage. Finally, on Thur. 4/30/15, she went into surgery to add titanium plates and make her skull whole once again. This is a major blessing and we celebrate each incremental step in her progress.
While handling this unimaginable tragedy, the Rombachs face a towering mountain of financial obligations, and Chloe will need continuing medical care for many years to come. Financially, things could not be much worse.
Let's try to eliminate one of their greatest monthly financial obligations:
Paying for their home's renovations.
Let's do it for the love of the Rombachs:
Ed, Jeannie and AJ (their eldest daughter) and, especially, for Chloe.
The goal is set as follows:
Phase 1: RENOVATIONS
$95,000 needed to pay for home repairs and improvements to the main house and basement - to make the house safe and wheelchair accessible for Chloe
Onward and upward.
Here's a video I made to tell Chloe's story - set to the beautiful music of songwriter and musician, Dean Fields, who graciously allowed me to use two of his songs: Any Minute Now and Not Again, to serve as the narration for these images. Thank you, Dean.

*With your $1 donation, you'll be offered the chance to either:
- Simply pay $1 in total - that's it, nothing additional.
The Casa Rombach fund will pay for the credit card processing and Crowdrise costs incurred and then disburse 100% of all the remaining proceeds to the Rombach family.
- You can add 38 cents to cover the costs of the fundraiser, which would make your total donation $1.38 USD.
Here's how this total amount breaks down:
- $1.00 will go to the Casa Rombach fund
- 30 cents is charged per transaction by the credit card processor
(this is a flat rate each time a credit card is charged, no matter what the amount is)
- 5 cents is charged by Crowdrise (5%) for use of the Crowdrise platform
- 3 cents is charged by the credit card company (3%)
We picked the Crowdrise platform for this fundraiser because they are rated tops in the crowdfunding industry - and they guarantee that in the end, the Casa Rombach fund will receive $99 out of every $100 raised. See below!
Here's some additional info Crowdrise provides on their site:
What does CrowdRise cost?
It's free to create an online fundraising campaign on CrowdRise. If you're raising money for your own personal cause (medical expenses, accidents and emergencies, tuition, volunteer trips, etc), your fees average under 1% and that includes all credit card fees. That means you're keeping more than $99 of every $100 you raise. The reason the costs are so incredibly low is that your donors have the option to make it so 100% of their donation goes to your cause. And most do it. For those that don't, CrowdRise takes a 5% fee before the funds are sent to your personal bank account. If you're raising money for charity, CrowdRise takes a fee of 3%-5% before the funds are sent to the charity. The credit card company also deducts their standard 2.9% + $0.30 fee from each donation. The finest charities in the world such as the American Red Cross, UNICEF, Stand Up to Cancer and Clinton Global Initiative all choose CrowdRise. The fees are used to deliver the most amazing online fundraising platform and give you such amazing service that you'll feel compelled to tell ten, no eleven, friends about CrowdRise.
Keep $99 out of every $100 you raise. Guaranteed.
CrowdRise will guarantee you keep at least $99 of every $100 you raise. With most sites you just get $92. Plus, on CrowdRise there are no goal requirements or fundraising deadlines.
If at the end of your campaign, you haven’t kept $99 of every $100 you've raised, email us and we’ll make up the difference.
