Get your Superhero costume ready and join friends and family for the CASA Superhero Run as part of the George Eastman House Photo Finish 5K. CASA of Rochester/Monroe County is looking for real life superheroes on October 3rd, showing abused and neglected children that people care. The SuperHero Run will raise much-needed funding to support the work of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). CASA volunteers are trained to give abused and neglected children a voice in court and advocate for them as they navigate through the complex and overworked child welfare system. A CASA continues with the children until they find safe and permanent homes where they can thrive. The need for more advocates is always great; of the 623 children involved in neglect and Abuse cases in the first half of the year, CASA currently only has advocates for 161, less than 26 percent. Local folks can help make sure that more children get this vital support to find a safe, permanent home and access services they need to heal and succeed. Every child deserves a chance to grow up and become a happy, healthy adult, regardless of the abusive and neglectful circumstances many kids are born into.
