I am so deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Bill. He put up an incredible fight with his great big heart that just didn't want to let go. See More

THE STORY:

The Casey family is a thoughtful, giving, caring family that always lends a hand to help those in need. They are strong and loving and always have a smile on their faces. Most people do not know that behind those smiles, they are hiding their own struggles. For the past 2 years Bill has been fighting cancer. Kelly and Bill Casey live in Mahopac and are both teachers. They are also the proud parents to their amazing 4 year old twins, Madison and Connor. I am honored to have met this incredible family as I have been the twins Preschool teacher for the past two years. Our relationship has developed into a friendship and I have learned that this family holds the meaning of selfless. Bill, formerly a sports reporter, is a 5th grade teacher and Varsity baseball coach. He has stage 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma. In 2014, Bill was diagnosed with this less than common cancer and immediately began treatment. He underwent chemo/radiation treatments from November to January 2015. In July, Bill had major reconstructive surgery with indications that the cancer was removed. In February of 2016, Bill received the heartbreaking news that the Cancer has returned. Due to the limited options presented to them by their New York doctors, Kelly and Bill decided to pursue a promising holistic treatment in the Philippines, taking them away from work and the twins for three weeks. Bill received daily serums and light treatments to rid the body of this disease. Between flights, hotels, treatment center, doctors, and medical supplies, I could only imagine the financial burden that the Casey family has endured. Upon return from the Philippines, Bill went right back to work, teaching and coaching despite his pain and fatigue. Allowing time for the treatment to work, Bill allowed 5 months to go by when all of a sudden he was feeling ill again. Assuming the worst, the Casey family took a much needed family vacation they all enjoyed despite Bills continued struggle with pain, weakness, and fatigue. Now 7 months later, the cancer is here and at full force and Bill continues with his strength, determination and positive attitude to fight this battle. He is currently undergoing chemo treatments and is surrounded with love, hope and prayer by family and friends. Bill and Kelly have taken leave from their work as teachers. Kelly is caring for Bill at their home in Mahopac, giving Bill care, love and assistance with his medical needs. One of the greatest honors of being a preschool teacher is being able to witness relationships between parents and their children. With excruciating pain and admiration, I would watch Bill pick up Madison for one last kiss and kneel to the ground for one of Connors super hugs as he squints in pain. Madison and Connor are Bills whole world. Their bond is quite special. We are starting this fundraiser to help the Caseys face their current financial struggles as they stay focused on getting Bill back to rolling on the floor with those amazing kids. With the hope and prayer in our hearts, we hope that you can find it in your hearts to help this family that has always helped others, their families, friends, and community and maybe in some way helped you. Let us stand together and see them through this difficult time as the holidays approach. I thank you in advance for your generosity and thoughtfulness. I couldn't think of a family that deserves this more. Kelly Gagliardi Casey and Bill Casey, you have my promise to support, pray, hope and be here for you and those Lil Angels. Love you guys!!!!
