BENEFITING: Saha Global
EVENT DATE: Jun 08, 2015
Hi, my name is Cassie Arenz. Currently I am a senior in Engineering Physics at the University of Illinois. Next year I will be staying at the University of Illinois for a master's degree in Energy Systems with a concentration in solar energy. I am excited to be joining the Saha Global Leadership team in Ghana this summer! For this program we will be helping women entrepreneurs in the rural areas start solar business to allow the town to gain access to electricity. In order to purchase the supplies to build the solar charging centers and support other costs in the country, I will need to raise $2950. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and I will be more than happy to share pictures and stories :)
About Saha Global
Saha Global (formerly known as Community Water Solutions) empowers women in rural communities to solve their village’s need for clean water and electricity by providing business opportunities. How do we do it? Saha selects some of the world’s top young leaders to participate in this three-week program in Ghana where they are be trained to become Saha Field Representatives. Saha’s innovative Global Leadership Program fuels the implementation of new water and solar businesses in rural communities.
Saha monitors each water and solar business for 5 years after implementation. Our team visits about 20 communities each day to check-in with the women entrepreneurs to offer businesses advice and long-term training. We believe that our commitment to monitoring, combined with our use of simple and locally available technology, has been the key to our 100% sustainability rate.
To date, Saha Global has launched 71 clean water businesses and 5 solar electricity businesses, which empower 164 women entrepreneurs who serve 38,108 people. 100% of these businesses are still in operation today!!
