BENEFITING: DANE COUNTY FRIENDS OF FERALS
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2017
You can donate a lump sum or you can pledge an amount per cat selfie I post (25 cents per selfie, 50 cents per selfie, $1 per selfie, etc.). I expect to post somewhere around 100 cat selfies during the challenge. Here's how the challenge works:
Starting May 1, post your cat selfies to Instagram with the hashtag #catselfiechallenge. At the end of the month the Cat Selfie Challenge committee (me) will tally up the number of cat selfies each participant has taken and post the results on Facebook.I’ve gotten some feedback suggesting that people who have jobs working with cats will have an unfair advantage. With this in mind, I’ve decided to create two categories: one for people who work with cats (at a shelter, at a veterinary clinic, as a cat sitter, etc.) and one for those who don’t. For now I’m operating under the assumption that I’ll be able to tell if you work with cats based on the content of the selfies you post.
OFFICIAL RULES: (1) Post selfies with you and a cat to Instagram using the hashtag #catselfiechallenge. (2) Selfies must be taken by you and must include at least part of your face and at least part of the cat's face. (3) Selfies must be taken DURING the month of May, 2017 (honor system) and posted on or before May 31. (4) The same cat cannot appear in more than one of your selfies. (5) Cats that live with you aren't eligible (honor system). (6) The person who posts the most cat selfies gets some sort of prize (that will probably cost $0 so don't get too jazzed, it's more about pride and admiration). (7) The cat who appears in the most Cat Selfie Challenge posts gets a ton of head scritches. (8) BE NICE TO EVERY CAT YOU EVER MEET IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. Don’t pick up a cat you don’t know or do anything to make a cat feel scared or uncomfortable in the pursuit of a cat selfie.
You can participate simply for the thrill of competition or in a quest for self-actualization, OR you can ask friends and family to pledge a dollar amount for every cat selfie you post and donate the money you raise to the charity of your choice. You'll have to organize all that yourself, though (another opportunity for pride/admiration, imo). I'll be donating the money I raise to Dane County Friends of Ferals. If you plan on fundraising, you can use my end-of-the-month tally to determine what your pledgers owe and then begin the process of shaking them down. If the Cat Selfie Challenge goes global (it will) and ends up on Ellen (seems likely) then obviously I’m going to stop keeping track of everyone else's selfie totals.
