I was born & raised in Costa Rica - a land of of volcanoes, biodiversity & awesome wildlife, where in the same day you can see the sunrise in the Atlantic & drive to the Pacific to see the sunset. My non-English speaking parents send my brothers & I to an international school where we learnt English & were exposed to kids from all over the world. They worked very harde to then send us to the US for our college studies. I was lucky to get a scholarship at a very liberal small college in Ohio. I had 4 jobs or so, studied Chemistry & Germany & literally froze in the snow - had never seen it & was definitely not prepared for it! Luckily, scholarships took me abroad to Germany for two summers & a school semester. I cleaned homes, worked as waiter & fixed gardens to travel & explore on the weekends - there was so much to see!!! After graduation I drove across the US from Niagara Falls to California. Ended up staying in LA for10 years and travelled throughout the world. In LA I discovered the non-profit world & Rotary, an amazing worldwide non-profit organization supported by the likes of Bill Gates. I was hooked after helping organize a humanitarian trip for 100 Rotarians to Costa Rica. The container of wheelchairs we gave away definitely changed me. 10 years later, I drove across the country to Miami, Florida to leverage my native Spanish in my then corporate real estate career. I missed warm waters, palm trees, Latin culture & my family, all still residing in Costa Rica. Miami quickly became my new home. I'm surrounded by my chosen family here, very generous & amazing friends. In 2013 I quit my job to volunteer in Africa. Destiny led me to a very special Maasai community, amazing teachers of courage, compassion & joy. With support from friends, I started toilets, a school for 100 kids & a corn plantation. Thanks to this amazing Crowdrise platform, 200+ friends helped me raise $30K to go back to my tribe in 2016 and dig a 150m water borehole, bring health/sanitation education to the area & start sustainable projects. I have been blessed with a Maasai name & was proposed marriage by the Chief. I am attracted to tribal communities & places where little help reaches. After coming back to the US, the Amazon visited my dreams. I quickly met with an amazing organization, Project Amazonas. It is now my mission to help its founder see his dream come true, a floating hospital in the Amazon. I am beyond excited to head on the a medical mission trip this April 2017 which reaches tribes that seldom see civilization.
