CatchTheBeat Music Lessons
Organized by: Dana Johnson
My name is Dana Johnson. I am an artist, musician, DJ, producer, and music teacher. Music has been a very big part of my life since childhood. Growing up in East Orange, NJ, I did not always have the most immediate outlets to learn more about music. My family could never afford a private lesson, but over time I self-taught five different instruments and various elements of music theory. My quest for knowledge has become part of my life work - not only learning more, but being able to educate and share the joy of music with others. Over the last six months, I have focused in on my music lessons program - CatchTheBeat. Teaching drums/percussion, DJing/turntablism, production/beatmaking, and most recently guitar, I currently have over a dozen students/clients throughout NJ & NY that I see on a weekly/biweekly basis. I took time to write out curriculum for each instrument, and the core elements of my instruction are rooted in a basic theory - With focus, confidence, and leverage to adapt/be creative, any and everyone can learn how to 'catch the beat'. The demand for music lessons has become so great that I want to make it part of my genuine full-time job/career: Incorporating other instructors into the programs, training on the unique ideology and curriculums behind each lesson, and preparing /providing text with each lesson (homework!). Every lesson is normally two hours long (two hour minimum, some have gone longer), but the introductory lesson - regardless of which instrument is being learned - commonly goes the same way: A conversation and analysis/breakdown of how the student currently approaches music, in relation to how they want to approach it. I have the belief and upmost confidence that I can develop an introductory lesson that can be coordinated remotely - no matter where you are in the country (or the world), you can have a two-hour introductory consultation with CatchTheBeat.
