BENEFITING: RAINFOREST FUND INC
Access to clean, potable water is a human right.
For the indigenous and traditional populations of the Ecuadorian Amazon, though, this right has been compromised by years of unregulated oil operations resulting in poinsoned rivers, streams and groundwater. Illness has plagued communities and threatened indigenous peoples' cultures.
But there is a solution.
Rainforest Fund, together with partner organizaton ClearWater and the indigenous communities throughout Succumbios and Orellana, has worked hard to ensure that all people regain access to clean water by use of rainwater catchment systems which harvest and filter rainwater.
Local communities have led this Water Project and have succeeded in construcing over 800 water systems. They train community members to plan, construct and maintain the systems for sustainble use.
But there is more work to be done. More tanks to build. More rights to be fulfilled.
