I'm going to Kenya!!!! In August I will be spending 2 weeks in a clinic for children with autism in Nairobi. The clinic is operated by a local agency called Kaizora Consultants. A wonderful behavior analyst named Puja is the director there. I have met with her on two occasions while at my annual conferences for behavior analyst.
I am one of six people on the team. There is one other board certified behavior analyst coming with us. The team members are from all over the U.S. and Canada. One is a retired teacher, one works in an autism clinic; one is finishing her course work to become a behavior analyst. All are very dedicated to children on the autism spectrum.
The work I will be doing while at the clinic is providing training to the clinical staff. I believe this will be mostly with the VP-MAPP. That is the mostly widely used measurement tool in English speaking countries for assessing language for children with autism. Recently this assessment has been made available in most languages though the training for it is still emerging. I have training and years of experience administering the VP-MAPP.
While I am in Kenya I will be with my team and team coordinator. We have a long time loyal driver who will take us every place we need and want to go including from and to the airport. The house that we stay in is in a very safe and secure neighborhood with double gates. At this time the U.S. government has not issued any restrictions in travel to the area. There will be a team blog that will be updated daily that I will post for everyone.
There is a $5,000 fundraising commitment to participate in the Global Autism Project. This money does not pay for me to travel. I cover that cost. It does not pay me for working. I volunteer my time. The money goes to running the clinic in Kenya. These cost include the daily expense such as electricity, water, and rent. There is also therapy materials and maintaining the cleanliness of the clinic. It also helps pay the local staff's salary. The clinic provides mostly one to one staff for the children.

Thank you for all your love and support on this next adventure of mine.
