It is with great excitement that I am preparing to run the marathon. What has always been a dream, is slowly becoming a reality. When I started my career with Catholic Charities, my favorite aspect was working with the Boston Marathon team. Coordinating the fundraising efforts in 2013 was a surreal experience. To see how passionate the city was on Marathon Monday in hopes of redeeming itself was so inspiring. After watching our team cross the finish line, it became a dream to run those 26 miles.
In the last few years, I have held a number of positions with Boston-area non-profits. In my time in this field, I have had to tell people they won't have a warm place to sleep tonight. I have had to tell people they won't be having a meal tonight. I have had to tell people they have to remain homeless longer than they thought. It is with a great deal of drive and ambition that I plan to fundraise for this this race. In my time of working with the poorer population of this city, I have seen the exponential difference that any level of donation can provide to these people.
After years of Olympic Weightlifting and Crossfitting, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to take a break and focus on running, admittedly my weakest area physically. I have always been one for undergoing big challenges and this will certainly set the bar with being the biggest.
Thank you to all my family and friends for the support of training and fundraising in the next few months!
The Catholic Charities of Boston Team is proud to be running as part of the John Hancock Marathon Program.
Catholic Charities of Boston programs serve the poor and working poor in your community with dignity and compassion. For more than 100 years, we have supported families as they struggle to put food on the table, secure child care for their children and seek out better opportunities through education. Last year alone, Catholic Charities served over 200,000 of your neighbors across the Archdiocese of Boston. At Catholic Charities, we strive to help people become self-sufficient.
