FUR & FEATHER ANIMAL SANCTUARY wrote -
Fur & Feather Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization on our way to building an animal sanctuary. While we work on the big solution we are in need of building a cattery to house kitties who are infected with FELV (feline leukemia). Due to their special needs, we want to create a home for them to live comfortably until they are adopted by special people who will love and take care of them.
WHAT WE NEED:
Cats infected with this disease can live long and healthy lives with proper care. The cattery will ensure that they:
- Live indoors
- Be spayed or neutered
- Not be fed a raw diet
- Be examined by a veterinarian regularly
- At least twice yearly
- Have routine blood screens (including a complete blood count and blood chemistry profile)
- Urinalysis (urine testing) done at least yearly
Hematological (blood) disorders are common in cats with feline leukemia, so some veterinarians may advise blood testing, particularly the complete blood count, twice yearly. In the event that a previously healthy feline leukemia positive cat becomes ill, a thorough diagnostic plan and aggressive treatment should be instituted as soon as possible.
WHAT IS FELINE LEUKEMIA?
Feline leukemia is not cancer as people have it. Cats infected with the feline leukemia virus experience suppression of their immune system. This immunosuppression can cause an infected cat to become more susceptible to secondary infections. These secondary infections may be viral, bacterial or fungal and can affect any body system.
Please join our efforts in helping build our cattery. Every penny and more will make a difference in transforming the lives of our wonderful kitties because each of them is worth saving. Thank you!
