Hello, I wanted to say than…
Hello,

I wanted to say thank you very much for your generous donations to Self Help Africa. It is overwhelming how supportive you all were throughout my training and fundraising efforts and with your help I was able to raise $20,746 (4x my goal of $5,000).

Running the Boston Marathon for Self Help Africa was an experience of a lifetime. With all of your support, I was motivated to train throughout the cold winter months and felt very prepared for the race. When race day came along in April, I actually didn’t feel my best thanks to these tiny little things called “Chia Seeds”. For those who have never heard of them, they are a nutrient that athletes sometimes use to help sustain their energy levels. Marathon runners have told me numerous times not to do anything new the day of the race…But of course I didn’t listen. These chia seeds didn’t agree with me, and I started to feel nauseous early on in the race. I was able to charge through the pain (a special thanks to my running buddy that day) but it definitely slowed my pace and ultimately I think saved me and my family from harm. I was stopped after mile 25 and did not get the finish the race – it was a true blessing and a major disappointment all in one.

A terrible tragedy stopped me from finishing the Boston Marathon, but those maniacs will never ruin the fact that our small team raised enough money (thanks to YOU) to lift villages from extreme poverty in Africa. It is nice to know that in the midst of tragedy, we made a real difference in people’s lives.

Since I didn’t get the satisfaction of finishing the marathon that day, I signed up to run the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon this past Sunday. I had another tough run with cramps in my leg (another special thanks to my running buddy for coaching me through), but I was able to finish just under 5 hours and I could not be happier. Thank you very much for supporting me through this journey and for your very generous donations to a wonderful cause.

Best Regards,
Emer

Hello,

I wanted to say thank you very much for your generous donations to Self Help Africa and helping me to exceed my goal in raising $5,000. So far, you have helped me to raise over $5,900+ and I am extremely grateful. Not only have you helped to motivate me during my training runs this frigid winter season but you have helped me to contribute to a wonderful cause. Self Help Africa is an international development agency that works to empower people living in rural Africa to achieve their economic independence and lift themselves out of poverty. In enables thousands more people to start a small business, grow more than enough produce to eat and sell, introduce a new income to their homes, educate their children and expand their horizons.

I will be thinking of each and every one of you as I embark on my 26.2 mile journey two weeks from TODAY! Training has gone well and I am feeling prepared and ready to take on heart break hill. If you happen to be in Boston and are cheering on the sidelines on April 15th I will be wearing a bright pink shirt (with pink headband) that has my name on the front. My bib number is 24078 and I should be starting the race at 10:40am-11:00am if you would like to track me online. I hope to see some of you out there (especially in Newton to help me through the hills!!). Thanks again for your support.

Best Regards,

Stuff About Me:

As many of you may know, I have decided to run in the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15th 2013 to help raise funds for Self Help Africa.

Self Help Africa is an international development agency that works to empower people living in rural Africa to achieve their economic independence and lift themselves out of poverty.  It enables thousands of people start a small business, grow more than enough produce to eat and sell, introduce a new income to their homes, educate their children and expand their horizons. With your generous support, we can make a huge difference in the lives of so many.

Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Self Help Africa and let’s help make a difference together.  No donation is too small and music suggesions to keep me motivated on my long training runs are more than welcome.
