BENEFITING: CHICAGO ADVENTURE THERAPY NFP
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2011
Hi everyone! As you may know, I have been a runner off and on since high school. It has been one thing that has pulled me through some very hard times in life. But, I don't think I realized how much I love running until about 3 years ago when I moved to Chicago. I have beautiful scenery to run in, supportive people to encourage me on the toughest of days, and a new running goal! I have decided to run the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 9, 2011. It has always been on my life to-do list, but recently, I found an even greater motivation to actually complete my goal. I will be running the 26.2 miles to benefit Chicago Adventure Therapy (CAT), the only urban therapeutic wilderness program in Chicago and one of very few in the United States! CAT provides unique opportunities for at-risk youth, such as kayaking, rock-climbing, navigation, and cycling to enhance problem-solving, trust, responsibility, effective communication, and self-esteem.
Running has given me something to feel confident about. It has challenged me to set and keep goals for myself and has given me an outlet for my anger and for some of my really sad days. Being active outdoors has always been very therapeutic for me. These are some of the things CAT is helping to provide youth in Chicago. I hope you will support me in my goal to run 26.2 miles and raise $2,620 for CAT!
