BENEFITING: ALACHUA COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY INC
Every year the Alachua County Humane Society takes in over 1,000 homeless animals at risk for euthanasia at our County Shelter. Last year, 966 of these animals were adopted into their forever homes! However, while they are here, things can sometimes be a little...cramped. These funds will be used to purchase and install cat portals in our cat holding cages. These portals will be used to connect two smaller cages into one large living area for each cat in our holding areas of the shelter. Best practice in animal sheltering is to give cats at least 4 feet of space to move around which keeps cats from sleeping or spending time in their litter boxes. This decreases stress and the risk for illness and disease for animals in our shelter which helps us find them a home even faster! Funds will also be used to construct raised beds to give each feline a place to rest their paws. The plan is to install 10 cat portals in our existing cage banks and then construct the raised beds for each cage. Please help us give these kitties the space they need to be happiest and healthiest so we can save even more lives!
