BENEFITING: FAMILIAL HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA FOUNDATION
You can't change your family's history, but you can change your family's future.
FH causes early heart disease in families, but we can change that. By making a donation to the FH Foundation you can help prevent 12,000 heart attacks per year, many of them in men and women under the age of 45.
Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a common inherited genetic disorder that causes very high cholesterol from birth, but most people with FH don't even know they have it. Having FH is different from having high cholesterol from other causes - it starts earlier, the numbers are higher, and it can cause heart disease much earlier in life. The good news is that we have the tools to diagnose and treat FH. All that's missing is awareness.
The FH Foundation is working to raise awareness so that more people with FH are diagnosed and treated while they still have a fighting chance to prevent heart disease in their family.
A lifetime of exposure to very high cholesterol can lead to early heart attacks. If you have very high cholesterol and a family history of early cardiovascular disease, ask your doctor if it could be FH. FH is treatable, but it is important to diagnose it early. If you have FH, your children could have inherited it from you. Be sure to have their cholesterol levels checked so that you can start preventing heart disease today!!
