BENEFITING: The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp
EVENT: Team HITW NYC Marathon 2016
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
“Who in their right mind would willingly run a marathon?” I swore I would never be caught dead doing such a thing… And yet, here I am setting up my fundraising page for the NYC marathon. Ironic? If you know me, and you know how I used to cringe for those who signed up to run track / xc, you can imagine that any cause that would bring me to willingly sign up to run 26.2 miles must be a heck of a powerful one.
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp allows over 25,000 children affected by serious illnesses to come to camp free of charge each year. HITW gives these kids the opportunity to “raise a little hell” and to embrace childhood as every kid is meant to be able to do.
Not only does Hole in the Wall provide camp for kids affected by serious illness, but it also provides camp for siblings as well as weekend programs for families. Each year, HITW helps kids regain a new sense of self-confidence and joy as well as helps families regain connection. To find about more about Hole in the Wall, check out http://www.holeinthewallgang.org.
While kids and families go to camp for free, the expense for one kid to go to camp for one week is $2500 and the cost associated with having one family at a family weekend is $1,000. These costs cover not only the lodging and food for each person, but also all medical care. Without this, camp would not be able to exist.
If you feel as moved by the mission of this organization as I have been, your donations would be much appreciated! Either way, continue to spread the word about Camp!
