There are many children who have a touch start to life and many that have rough journeys along the way. I have twins that were born at only 29 weeks and while one of them is for the most part healthy, his twin was born with a heart defect and little to no immune function. He spent both his 1st and 2nd birthdays/Christmastime in the hospital/ICU at at the age of 7 he is still monitored closely! I wish I had known about Icing Smiles back when we spent SO much time with him in this hospital-while we celebrated him several months later in this summers-it would have meant such great deal to see my son full of joy at the gift of an amazing cake ON his birthday that I was unable to make myself!
They are the reason I started baking as a business and inspire me on my journey as both a Mama and a baker and while I have not yet donated a cake (though I have cookies on several occasions) to a cause like this I did gift this Christmas Cake (along with decorated sugar cookies) to the NICU families/ staff where my my twins (and my third who's twin we lost) were born. It is purple Ombre in the bottom tier, bubbles on the inside teal tier and lights inside tho top tear to represent the moon! :) It is companies like Icing Smiles that inspire me to keep those sweet smiles on children's faces and inspire me on my own sweet journey.
Anyhow, Icing Smiles is a nonprofit organization that provides donated customized sweets to families impacted by the critical illness of a child. This fundraiser is also a cake contest. Each dollar donated is also a vote for a cake ($1 = 1 vote, $20 = 20 votes etc.). While I appreciate your support and votes and the opportunity to win, really it is for these amazing children and their families and bringing them such joy and sweet smiles! :)
