CBD oil for Drue's seizures
Organized by: Ashlee Yuskis
Drue is 4 years old, and in those 4 years he has been through so much. Drue was born with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy which means he suffered brain damage because his umbilical cord was compressed during delivery and he wasn't getting the oxygen his little body needed. After he was born, he had to stay in the hospital in the NICU for 2 months. They told us he would not make it because that he was without oxygen for to long, but he is a fighter and fought through each day.
We finally got to bring our darling baby home. After a few months at home he started doing these strange movements. I had never seen anything like it so I took him to the doctor and he was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms, a really bad type of seizure that completely wipes the persons brain of memory so it becomes very hard to teach things to someone with this type of seizure. We were able to find a treatment at the time to treat this and it worked. He even went almost three years seizure free. The doctors told me it was great but that it is very typical that these seizures would stop when a child reached about the age of 2 but that later they would start with other types.
A few months ago Drue had to have an important surgery on his tummy and we knew there was a possibilty that going under for surgery could cause his seizures to come back. He needed the surgery to live so we went ahead and did it. The surgery was a success and he started making many improvements, but then we started seeing the seizures again. This time it was a different type called Myoclonic. They are not as bad as the Infantile Spasms but still not good. He is having about 4-5 seizures a day right now, we have tried several seizure medicines and they haven't worked. He is on Keppra right now. We started him at 2 mls twice a day. It worked for a while then stopped. We increased his dose to 3.5 mls twice a day and that didn't help. Now he is on 5 mls. twice a day and it still isn't working.
There is a treatment available for hard to treat seizures or people who are not seeing improvement on standard seizure medications, but it is not the typical treatment so it is not covered by insurance. So many people with epilepsy have used this with great success. Not only is it able to help his seizures but it can help his tight muscles, upset stomach, and several other conditions he suffers with. Each bottle is $250 plus shipping and each bottle lasts about a month. As you can see this is quite expensive. Please help us help our little fighter. Thank You so much!
