BENEFITING: ADAMS STREET FOUNDATION INC
As many of you know, for the past seven years, I've had the privilege of volunteering my time with the Urban Assembly School of Law & Justice (SLJ). This has included mentoring two students through the Young Men's Initiative, teaching law-themed classes to students, judging moot courts, and being a member of the Junior Board.
This year SLJ is celebrating its 10-year anniversary! While almost all of SLJ's students are from low-income families, during the school's first 10 years, over 90% of SLJ's students have gone onto college (which is remarkable for an unscreened New York City public school).
In order to ensure that SLJ continues its success for decades to come, and in conjunction with its 10-year anniversary, we have launched SLJ’s 1,000 FUTURE SCHOLARS Campaign. The money we hope to raise will go toward providing students with a broad array of programs outside the classroom. These include (1) academic support programs such as SAT prep, (2) internships, (3) mentorships, (4) on- and off-site extracurricular activities, (5) pre-college summer programs, (6) trips and guest speakers, (7) community service opportunities, (8) an early college awareness curriculum, and (9) differentiated college and career advising.
I ask that you help me achieve my goal of raising $1500 which will provide one SLJ student with the opportunity to participate in essential programs that most of you probably took for granted in high school. Thanks in advance for any donation you can make (even a $10 donation will go toward supporting SLJ's future scholars).
