BENEFITING: Children's Brain Tumor Foundation, Inc.
ORGANIZER: Neda and Sheeva
EVENT DATE: Nov 07, 2010
I plan to run the NYC marathon on Sunday, November 7th and am writing for your support. I am running this year to support a cause that is near and dear to me. Thanks to Edward Norton and his Crowdrise fundraising initiative for the marathon this year, it is possible to raise money for causes that are not official charity partners of the race. Through this, I have decided to raise funds for the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation in honor of Riley Margaret Danbusky, the daughter of my very close friends, Pamela and Daniel Danbusky.
For those of you who do not know the Danbusky family and Riley's story, I have provided some context below. Having known Pam and her family since grade school, I have had the amazing opportunity to be surrounded by their love and inspirational dedication to life, family, and happiness through the years. Pam is one of those rare people you will meet in life who instantly makes everyone fall in love with her. Her husband, Daniel and their respective families are equally loveable and admirable. Riley is the cutest 3 year old you will meet, a wonderful combination of her parents. She also has an adorable little sister, Caroline. My son, Tyler, loves being around the Danbusky girls!
A little context on Riley's story...
In June of 2009 Riley was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Pathology tests revealed the tumor to be classified as a Pilocytic Astrocytoma with Pilomyxoid characteristics. It took multiple surgeries to obtain resection of the whole tumor. After two surgeries and the installation of a VP Shunt to ease swelling in her brain, Riley came through with no signs of residual tumor. However, Riley experienced a recurrence of the tumor last winter after which she had another surgery. And, more recently, this October, she has had another recurrence. As Riley's family considers the next steps to her treatment, their large network of family and friends are standing by sending prayers and lots of support their way.
Pam has mentioned that the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation has been very helpful to them in the past year +, which is why I have chosen this charity.
Through Riley's battle, I have been beyond impressed and inspired by the strength and courage that one little girl can have. Her family has given us all a lesson in perseverance and life. I love them dearly and continue to pray for a cure.
Thank you for any contribution you are able to make. Hope to see some of you on marathon sunday! Neda
