BENEFITING: American Sexual Health Association
EVENT DATE: Oct 25, 2014
In 2006 my annual pap smear/pelvic exam visit became a nightmare. As I was walking in to the bleachers gate to a Cubs ball game, my phone rang and it was my GYN. My pap was abnormal and I was positive for a cancerous causing strain of HPV. After many tests and biopsies, I was in surgery within a few short weeks to remove lesions on my cervix. In less than 1 year I went from a normal pap smear to having cancer in my late 20's. Fortunately I have had no recurrence and based on testing over the years since the surgery, am considered cured. Yes, Cervical Cancer is CURABLE if detected and treated early. My body also fought off that HPV strain and remain negative ever since. I AM A SURVIVOR! Last year I asked for your help in supporting me in the fight against Cervical Cancer and all HPV related cancers. Thousands die every year from a cancer that is curable and preventable. Please consider continuing to support my ongoing efforts as a member of the National Cervical Cancer Coalition -- NJ Chapter and American Sexual Health Association. We are holding our 5th Annual Halloween 5K to End Cervical Cancer again this October. Last year with your help I raised over $1300! Donations are tax deductible. Also, check with your employer for matching!! You never know! Thank you for your support!!
