BENEFITING: CLAY COUNTY ANIMAL RESCUE & EDUCATION CENTER
CCARE is doing everything in their power to reduce construction costs by doing as much work ourselves as possible. With huge renovations and unforeseen construction/plumbing costs, we are reaching out to our amazing community members to once again ask for their support to consider donating to help with our construction costs.
WE HAVE KENNELS! It's been a long few months for our crew. Many, many volunteer hours have been spent getting our shelter ready to open. From plumbing to drywall to electric to painting, painting and MORE painting, we are getting even closer! Many ups and downs and financial worries, but nothing our awesome crew can't handle. We've been working at this dream for five years and finally, a bright and shining light at the end of the tunnel. We'll still be down to the wire to get the doors open by end of year, but you can bet we'll do our very best!
In February, we started with tearing down the existing ceilings, in what will be the kennel room. We also took down the tiles in the suspended ceiling in the other three rooms. As many tiles that could be salvaged were, they were then painted and hung back up with insulation added above them. The kennel room has had the most transformation, and is still a work in progress. CCARE had a contractor come in and apply a two-inch thick spray-on insulation to all the walls and ceiling, which greatly helped with the high costs of heating we'd been paying.
Since then, we have added paint to the walls and ceiling. Our general contractor, Bloom Construction, have been the busiest and hardest at work! They have removed two large areas of cement in the kennel room, added drains, and then re-poured new cement. This is where the two isles of dog runs will be. Kennels have been ordered and are in the process of being built. We are hoping to have them delivered in just a few weeks! Kling’s plumbing has been hard at work adding in our drains and making sure we have the proper plumbing set up throughout the building. There are many new places that drains are needed for the proper cleaning and housing of our future residents. While preparing for the new plumbing, we stumbled across some old plumbing that will need to be removed and replaced. Though it's not the end of the world (and we’re sure glad we found it during renovation rather than after) it's another expense and sets us back on our timeline that we were not expecting.
We still do not have a finish date as of yet, but things are coming along nicely. We owe SO many thanks to all who have donated their time and effort to continue making CCARE's dreams a reality. THANK YOU!
