EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
I have been chosen by my little sister's school, Cardinal Cushing Centers, to represent them in the 2015 Boston Marathon!
Cardinal Cushing is known as a school for intellectual disabilities, but it is so much more. They provide an enriching school and vocational setting for many different students from all over the country. It also provides beautiful homes for students in a residential setting.
My sister, Shannon, is my whole world. She was born when I was eight and a half years old. I knew she was my soul mate from the second I went to the hospital to visit her when she was born. When she was four days old she began having seizures. She also was developmentally delayed and currently is 15 years old, but 2 years old developmentally. As she grew older the seizures grew worse and more often. I helplessly watched my sister go through each of these and she continued to go through it all with her amazing smile. Shan is the best person I will ever have the honor of having in my life. I always say as Dory says, "I look at her and I am home."
My sister began attending school at Cardinal Cushing Centers in 2009 and has flourished from the time she was there. The staff are among th emost amazing teachers and peopel I have ever encountered. Shan loves going to school everyday and spending time with the staff and other students there. Cardinal Cushing is more than just a school to any who have had the honor of going there. It is a second home and family for all who are there.
I am representing Cardinal Cushing Centers in the marathon and raising money to spread the word of this great place. The money raised will help continue Cardinal Cushing's amazing mission for all children with intellectual disabilities.
