CCHS 1st Annual 5k Walk/ Run "Running for Shelter"
The proceeds made will go back into the Medical Fund for CCHS. On average, even with help from committed sponsors we spend nearly $30,000.00 on Medical, this does not include spay/ neuter costs. It does however include preventatives such as Bordetella vaccines, Heartworm prevention, Flea & Tick prevention. We also Heartworm test ALL dogs on intake and combo test ALL Cats & Kittens for Fiv/ Fleuk. If we feel the possibility of exposure we also test for Parvo and Lymes Disease. All animals are fully vaccinated including Rabies Vaccine, some see 2nd or 3rd series of vaccines; they are all dewormed and microchipped. We try (funds permitting) to have them all spayed/ neutered prior to adoption, if they aren't we have a voucher program that we follow up with.
We have special cases needing surgeries such as amputations, mass removals or previous injuries that were never cared for. We watch the health of all of our animals and should a pet need a special diet, we are able to provide that too. We also treat around 10 dogs a year for Heartworm disease, in hopes of making them more adoptable.
We are an open admission facility however we are a non profit with a county contract. The majority of our funding comes from donations, sponsors and fundraisers. We are the only shelter in our county, we are rescue friendly and at times choose rescue over adoption if that is what is best for the animal.
