In efforts to promote literacy Clever Communities In Action presents our 2nd annual Black History Month Youth Book Drive. Last February after attending a National African American Read-In at a local public school we noticed a lack of books written specifically for African-American Youth. We abruptly went to Facebook and announced that we wanted to raise $1000 to buy books to donate to schools. Due to generous Facebook friends and family we raised over $1300 in less than three weeks! This year we are looking to double that number by raising at least $2600 during the month of February. The more money we raise the more schools and community centers we can donate to. Statistics show that children of color are more engaged in reading when presented books in which they can identify with the characters and story-line. Most of the required reading books in the public school system are not inclusive of children of color. Please help us help the schools and community centers fill their classrooms and libraries with these books. Last year the children were over joyed when they received the books.
