Natasha’s Justice Project is preventing sexual assault & seeking help for survivors
Natasha's Justice Project is a nonprofit organization created to empower survivors of sexual assault by getting their rape kits off the shelves and tested so that their perpetrator(s) are brought to justice.
What is the rape kit backlog?
A rape kit is the biological and physical evidence, including DNA, collected from a rape victim’s body. But not all rape kits get tested. Instead, many become part of the rape kit backlog — untested rape kits warehoused in police storage and crime lab facilities.
Who is Natasha Alexenko?
Natasha Alexenko is a sexual assault survivor who was recently highlighted in HBO’s critically acclaimed documentary, Sex Crimes Unit. In 2008, nearly 16 years after she was violently attacked at gunpoint, her perpetrator was found through a DNA match, thanks to the dedication of New York City’s Cold Case Unit.
