This year the CCWI is directing its Year End Appeal support to Shouhardo, a CARE program that is reaching new heights in Bangladesh. The Shouhardo project is designed to fight poverty and improve nutrition among more than 2 million of Bangladesh’s poorest people. Your funds will support the CARE implementation of direct nutrition-focused interventions - such as child feeding - combined with indirect interventions - most notably the empowerment of women and girls - to produce the greatest impact of change, including an unusually large reduction in child stunting. CCWI has chosen to support Shouhardo for the 2012 appeal based on a few specific factors. One, this program combines the best of CARE to do the most good, meaning, by addressing multiple issues facing the poorest population, the Shouhardo program implements multi-level disciplines of programming. Two, Shouhardo provides women empowerment through micro financing, pre and post natal support, girls’ education, job training for young women, and supports the creation of women’s groups to confront early marriage, violence against women and limits on mobility. Three, support to Shouhardo will raise the living standards of millions of women and girls in Bangladesh, and as it continues to grow it has the potential to be brought up to scale and affect change around the globe.
