Dear Friends and Family,
On December 1st, I am visiting one of 14 orphanages in Tijuana, Mexico, where there are 1000's of children who are living in extreme poverty, only 2.5 hours south of Los Angeles. My intention is to GIVE in a variety of ways to those less fortunate.
A few months ago, I volunteered at one of these orphanages where 80 children live and rely on the generosity of others to receive the most basic needs to survive and thrive. I wasn't sure what to expect. Unconsciously, I thought the children would seem desperate and destitute. What I discovered were 80 beautiful souls who had very little in material possessions yet they were filled with joy, hope and gratitude for everything they DO have. They have dreams and aspirations just like any other child. They LOVE going to school and many are working hard to get into college. They are incredibly DRIVEN and really good kids! When I asked these children what they want to be when they grow up.... their answers were a doctor, a dentist, a teacher, a psychologist - all helping professions because they know first hand what it means to struggle. In fact, one of the older kids, Lorenzo IS in medical school.
Please take a look at this well run organization "Corazon De Vida" (Heart of Life) which supports 800 children in Baja, Mexico. It was founded by Hilda Pacheco-Taylor, who grew up in one of the orphanages. I met her myself. She knows first hand what it means to give back. Her life's work is to support children who's families have either given them up completely or just can't afford to keep them at home....
On December 1st, I will spend the day in Tijuana along with friends of mine. We will be playing with the children, doing arts, crafts and providing donated items to run the organage - such as basic household supplies and food. I am asking for your support in contributing to this incredible organization. By contributing and offering your support, you can help these children receive basic needs, a better education as well as the possibility of further succeeding in life.
Christmas is just around the corner. In the Spirit of Giving, I would appreciate anything you can give to help me reach my goal of $1,500 - every little bit helps! Your donation is 100% tax deductible. All monies donated go to directly to Corazon de Vida which runs the 14 orphanages.
You donation would fulfill 3 needs:
1. Food, shelter and clothes
2. Medical needs
3. Education: school fees, uniforms, supplies, etc.For more about Corazon De Vida, see below and/or click on their website link below:
BRINGING HOPE FOR THE ORPHANAGES OF BAJA
Corazon de Vida Foundation provides assistance to over 800 kids living in 14 Baja orphanages. The children are asking for your help to put nutritious food and clean drinking water on their tables, help them pay for propane and electricity, provide medical, dental, education needs, and improve their quality of life.
Can you help the children?
Together we can make a difference. Please create an online pledge page either as an individual or team. Funds raised through this pledge campaign will help cover orphanage needs through the first quarter of 2013.
Click on "Create Your Own Fundraising Page" link to the right to get started. Create teams with family, friends, co-workers, fellow students and encourage others to join your team. Once your page is created, send your link to everyone in your address book and share on Facebook and Twitter.
The 2012 Holiday Pledge Campaign will end on December 31 so please contribute even a small amount to help. This has been an incredibly difficult year for the children and they need us today.
