Cebras por la Vida- Walking Visionaries Award
Organized by: German Sarmiento
EVENT DATE Oct 19, 2015
Cebras por la Vida/Crosswalks for Life is a citizen led participatory project, as well as a tactical urbanism initiative that advocates for a more walkable and pedestrian friendly city through the artistic intervention of street crosswalks.
The project is a direct and emphatic response to an urban tragedy that results in approximately 300 dead pedestrians per year in Bogotá, or what accounts to almost 1 fatality every day. Unacceptable! A fact that sadly reveals a lack of priority and regard for human life. In 2013 the project initiated activities with children from City Schools. The initiative has been replicated in other Colombian and Mexican cities.
This year the project won the 2015 Walking Visionaries Award in the Advocacy Campaining and Social Projects Category. The prize will be handed at the Walk 21 Vienna Conference that will take place in Vienna, Austria between Oct 19th-23rd. The objective of this fundraising is precisely to collect the necessary funds to be able to travel to the conference and claim the recognition on behalf of Bogotanos and pedestrians of all over the world. TODOS SOMOS PEATONES. Esta una causa que nos involucra a todos.
