BENEFITING: Wildlife Conservation Society
We have 12.5 ha of rainforest, two streams, a grassland area, and a reforested zone. We are building a training center and a biological station in Oxapampa, Peru.
We will involve local communities on sustainable activities and we aspire to be an example for other regions. In our center we will train farmers and other landowners on water resources rational management, diminishing erosion, protecting riparian forest, decreasing pesticides use and others. Also students, study abroad groups, volunteers and researchers are welcome to come and visit us, develop a project on our property and the protected areas we have in the Biosphere Reserve Oxapampa, Ashaninka, Yanesha, in Peru.
We want to run our place under a permaculture framework. We want to show how a training center can be sustainable and at the same time teach about it. In our center we are going to offer comfortable and environmentally friendly rooms for our volunteers, students, as well as an area for classes and a lab. The energy supply would be mixed (solar, small hydroelectric, and biogas). Our wood is from forestry plantations and the roofs made from recycled tetrapak. We are going to collect rain water for showers and toilets, and we are constructing a grey water system and a composting area. We are growing local fruits, shaded coffee and starting a riparian reforestation project.
We are looking for any help that sponsors, donors and any interested people can make. Even a small contribution will be a huge help to the training center.
