BENEFITING: FAYETTE COUNTY ANIMAL RESCUE
Since I started volunteering at FCAR a few years ago, I wanted to find a project that would help the animals, the staff and all the volunteers who spend time with the dogs in their yards. I was always searching for that perfect place to sit down with the dogs so I could brush them or simply snuggle with them while I was in their yard. So with the permission of FCAR my husband and I built a few of these fun, practical, and elevated cedar decks to see how they would work out. The review is in! I have heard the staff and dogs love them. The first four decks were put in the yards that get the muddiest during bad weather. These decks provided the dogs with a larger area to stand or lay down well above the standing water and mud that accumulate from the down pours. The cedar smells amazing and I hear it deters bugs. These decks turned out to provide the perfect platform to brush the dogs or just sit down and spend time with them. Since they were a "hit" it is time to build 25 more so we can get one or in some cases, two, in every dog run. Small donations will go along way! One cement deck block is about $6.50. One 2 x4 cedar plank is about $7.00. A box of galvanized deck screws is about $20.00. One more block or 2x4 brings us that much closer to finishing the build. The labor is free of charge of course. My husband and I along with a small group of volunteers can build one deck in about an hour. The sooner we get to our goal, the sooner we can get them built. I have provided a couple of pictures to provide you with a visual.
