Worth the wait
April 10, 2017
On September 3rd, 2016 I will be swimming 10,000 yards to commemorate my 10,000th consecutive day of swimming, to celebrate the joy and benefits of a lifetime of swimming, and, hopefully, to raise at least $10,000.00 to fund swimming lessons for those who otherwise could not afford them.
A calculation of the yardage I have swum since the beginning (in 1989), of what others call my streak, puts me well into my second lap around the world. When I have shared this upcoming milestone with others, many ask if the streak is a World Record. I tell them that I don't know. I don't think it is a big deal. It's just me being me.
I do care about what we can accomplish by raising money to fund swimming lessons for those who otherwise could not afford them. I care about keeping them safe around water and I care about providing them with the skills that support a lifetime of swimming for health, fitness and the joy of swimming.
I hope you will help. Every $50.00 raised will subsidize someone's group lessons.
If you’re of the means to contribute $100.00, $1,000.00 (or more), please do so. If not, well, any amount will help. Think of the joy (not to mention the health and safety benefits) you can help bring to a young person or a parent who does not yet know the water.
Please note that one hundred percent of all the donations we receive here will go to fund lessons.
I'll be swimming 10,000 yards on Celebrate Swimming Day at Deep Eddy Pool in Austin, TX. on Saturday 9/3/16 at 8am. Feel free to join me for part or all of the swim or to take a swim to celebrate swimming wherever you can. Your donations are greatly appreciated.
