Friends, will you support me?
I've pledged to raise $2000 in 4 weeks for Columbia Heights Initiative and hope you will help me keep that promise.
Five years ago I moved to the neighborhood. I went to what was a small, but fun Columbia Heights Day on the Tubman field. A year later I started working at the Coupe -which opened on Columbia Heights Day. I always admired the people who were doing their part and I always participated in the festivial. It wasn't until last year that I joined the board of Columbia Heights Initiative to help represent the place I live and work. I've volunteered more than 250 hours to this nonprofit to help those who live, work and play here to better get to know each other.
This summer we hosted the 11th annual Columbia Heights Day that brought out 11,000 people! We also introduced outdoor Movie Nights in the Heights, will soon put on the Fall Fest block party (+ beer garden), and will bring back the Christmas Tree Extravaganza in the plaza this December. These special events bring our diverse community together. Will you help to keep them coming?
I've done it all - knocked on doors, set-up for big events, worked the happy hour info booth, and have rolled up the jumbo screen after we showed Inside Out. Now, I'm helping with probably the most important, yet hardest role to date- fundraising to make our vision sustainable.
If you can get behind celebrating the community of Columbia Heights, please:
A ) DONATE $25, $50, $100 to support our mission and keep these events accessible to all
B ) SHARE this fundraiser on your social media
Thanks for your support and maybe I'll see you at our next event!
What's the Columbia Heights Initiative?
Over a decade ago, Columbia Heights Day was created to bring unity to the diverse neighborhood of Columbia Heights in celebration of the local history and traditions. Our mission now, as the Columbia Heights Initiative, is to further enrich the quality of life in our community by creating year-round opportunities for residents, business, and organizations to connect in a deep and meaningful way.
This year we've become so much more than a one day festival. We've taken action to build a sustainable organizational infrastructure including tripling our active volunteer corps and building a business and nonprofit network to foster partnerships and help businesses thrive. We've organized community clean-ups, hosted happy hours at our local bars, and most important to our community, we've developed 16 signature events like:
Columbia Heights Day (of course!)
Movie Nights in the Heights
Easter Egg Hunt
Trick or Treat on 11th Street
Christmas Tree Extravaganza
With all these new and returning events, the Columbia Heights Initiative is sure to offer something for everyone. We take pride in making these experiences accessible to all who live, work, or play in our neighborhood. Thank you for your donation, for sharing this fundraiser on your social media, and for coming to our next event!
