Celebrate Transport DC Advocates' Success

Well shoot / Wow / Thank you!
October 25, 2016
Hello Disability Community & Friends.
Please help us celebrate! In the midst of this summer's heat wave the DC government announced, and then quickly implemented, deep cuts to the Transport DC program. Committed advocates took immediate action, making their presence and anger known at the ribbon cutting for the new Department of Disability Services Building where the Mayor addressed the crowd. That action led to two meetings with government agency officials. In addition, advocates celebrated the Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act with a lobby day, and hand-delivered a letter to the D.C. Mayor in September to make sure Councilmembers, Administration officials and staff knew how important Transport DC was and remains to the community.
After countless emails, phone calls, a Department of For-Hire Vehicles (DFHV) survey and all the great advocacy from riders the DFHV has rolled back the cuts. While we are not back to 100% of the program, the gains are significant and we want to recognize the hard work of advocates and allies! Please help us raise funds to host and cater an afternoon celebration on November 11th. Just like our summer actions, every single dollar counts.
Thanks and Solidarity,
The 'Transport DC is back and our community rocks' committee
