Our son, Gavin, died quite suddenly at the age of 5 1/2. We chose to donate his organs, which brought us great comfort during a very dark time. Sitting by his bedside as we waited for the transplant team to take him to the OR...we could easily imagine another family sitting by THEIR loved one's bedside getting the news that they have waited for. They found an organ.
We choose to honor our son's life by continuing to support those families that sit by their loved one's bedside waiting for a second chance at life. Many of those families find themselves in Philadelphia seeking medical treatment or, hopefully, getting a transplant. The Gift of Life Family House is a "home away from home" for those patients and their families. From their mission statement:
"Endless hours, false hopes and the patience to persist are just some of the trials faced when transplant is the only answer to a life-threatening diagnosis. Many challenges are encountered by transplant families and homelessness should not be one of them."
A family can stay at the Gift of Life Family House for just $40 per night. They get a beautiful room (one of which is named after Gavin!), home cooked meals, laundry facilities, a play room for children, support services, and so much more.
This "Giving Tuesday," please help us continue to honor Gavin's life by donating to support the Family House. ANY amount helps! You can give $2.00, $5.00, $20.00 - or consider "adopting a family" for a one night stay of $40.00! This fundraiser is only live for FORTY HOURS.
Help us celebrate Gavin... who always celebrated life.
