FINAL FUNDRAISING PUSH!!
Although my boston marathon marathon experience is in the rearview, a few things remain… Some for the rest of my life.
Running the Boston Marathon was an experience like absolutely nothing else. Sure, I was told that this would be the case going in, but I was completely blown away by the inside-out view of the world's most sought after 26.2 miles. Sights, sounds, emotions, pain, pride, sweat, wind, and rain. Even through this, for 21 miles I felt like I could do no wrong. I felt immortal, and to be perfectly honest, the physical challenge of a marathon didn’t seem like much. That is, until near each muscle in my legs decided to cramp up all at once while I was less than half of a mile from Cleveland Circle (where I knew my friends were waiting for me). I couldn’t fail in front of them, so despite every nerve in my body agreeing that I should spend some time stretching and walking-out my cramps, I held my jog together. At this point, all that really mattered to me was that I looked strong through this small stretch, then I would be able to let my body recover before talking to the final 4 miles of the course.
My race plans further crumbled to pieces much like my body had been as I realized that my friends decided to bandit run the last few miles with me. At this point I couldn’t (and didn’t) stop. Before long, I had conquered the Boston Marathon, and that was one of the greatest feelings in my life.
Another remaining thing is my fundraising. As previously mentioned, all funds raised here will directly benefit underprivileged children throughout New England thanks to the Celtics Shamrock foundation. Even though my race is has passed, I’m still actively pursuing my fundraising goal of $5000.
The Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation
The mission of the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is to extend the reach of the Boston Celtics championship legacy into our community through programs that directly benefit children in need. To do this, the Foundation applies a team mentality much like that of the 17-time world champion Celtics - and relies on key partnerships with New England-based non-profit organizations who provide vital services to youth and to whom we offer funding and resources to help increase our collective impact in the community. This year our partners are:
- Berklee City Music Network
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston
- Boston Children's Hospital
- Horizons for Homeless Children
- Perkins School for the Blind
- Citi Performing Arts Center
- Positive Coaching Alliance
