Your commitment to conservation is awesome and I just voted for you 'cuz I'm a sucker for my fellow nature fans. So I'm wondering - what are you doin' for St. Patrick's Day?

Before donning your party frocks, I'd like to ask you to think about what you'll spend for your night on the town and match those funds with a donation to The Nature Conservancy. Or consider staying in that night and donating the money you would have spent - you could even host and get all your buddies together and have them donate what they would have spent out.

We'd love to know if you'll join us in putting the green back in St. Patrick's day - you can go to http://www.crowdrise.com/greenstpatricksday/ to tell us about it and how you pledge to help.

Let's all Put the Green Back in 3/17! Thousands of dolphins and wolves will thank you - and you might even understand them if you speak dolphin or wolf.

Stuff About Me:
Well I really hate going on about myself, but I guess in this social net environment you really have to get over that so here goes. I fancy myself a bit unorthodox and highly unconventional. I can even be/seem radical by some peoples standards, however I tend to have the best of intentions at heart.

I am trying to raise awareness about what it means to be energy independant in the world today. All too often I hear this phrase tossed around and it is never accurate. Let me explain; as I see it used today the phrase "Energy Independance" means switching from oil to alternatives, but this is in no way independance. It is a catch phrase which more acurately means still be enslaved to a life of debt to a different form of energy--not independance.

In a recent study I participated in at school we asked people how much they spent per month on power. The percentages were scary as it ranged anywhere from 15-35% of their monthly income. So I ask what would happen if every community was able to produce its own power and free up that 15-35% of income? What if we involved people in their own neighborhoods with the running of this process and inspired kids to participate in the engineering of the power generation?

Perhaps, a more compelling set of questions and a little off the point is; why we as a people must be indebted to services/bills which never go away, i.e. power/food/shelter-etc.? Aren't we smart enough to eliminate these life long bills and focus our time on more important things?
