The Center for Independence through Conductive Education, Inc. is an Illinois 501 c 3 nonprofit committed to ensuring children with physical disabilities grow up to be healthy, independent, self-determined, fully participating members of the community. We accomplish our mission by providing intensive training programs that focus on improving life skills, self-care skills, work readiness, self-direction and self-advocacy through Conductive Education.
Since our inception, the Center for Independence has provided more than 500 children with over $8,000,000 in charitable services. We have never turned a child away or reduced program hours due to lack of insurance or inability to pay. We are proud to report that 90% of every dollar we spend is on programs that support children with physical disabilities, with less than 10% on management and fundraising. The Center also meets all 20 Better Business Bureau of Chicago Charity standards and is rated highly by Guidestar Charity Navigator.
The Center started in 1998 in a local church basement providing motor training services to six children with physical disabilities. Today the Center provides intensive group motor training programs year round to approximately 175 children with physical disabilities at 3 different locations in the Chicagoland area.
In March 2007, with the guidance and support of the Gancayco, Moser and Bathery families, the Northwest Program was started to ensure children living in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago have access to effective and affordable motor training services. Since our opening, St. Francis de Sales Church, located at 135 S. Bueshing Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047 has generously provided our space for free - ensuring our donations go directly to programming.
