The Conservancy aspires to build a great organization that sets the standard for and spreads the principles of world-class park management — emphasizing environmental excellence — to improve the quality of open space for the enjoyment of all.
The Conservancy is committed to sustaining this operating model to provide a legacy for future generations of park users.
The Central Park Conservancy is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1980 in a public-private partnership with the City of New York. Through private donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations, the Conservancy raises 75 percent of the Park’s annual operating budget, and is responsible for all basic care and management of Central Park.
The Conservancy also oversees and raises the money for major capital improvements and public programming. Since its inception, the Conservancy has raised and invested more than $690 million and transformed Central Park from its deteriorated state in the late 1970s to its present condition. Today Central Park is a model for urban parks worldwide.
The mission of the Central Park Conservancy is to restore, manage, and enhance Central Park in partnership with the public.
