BENEFITING: TEAM RED WHITE & BLUE
EVENT DATE: Oct 30, 2016
First, and most importantly, I would like to thank you for taking your time and reading this.
"Team RWB’s mission is to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity."
My story began in 2011 when I enlisted in the Marine Corps as a military policeman. Everything else happened so quickly it all seems like a blur now.
I deployed to Helmand province (Marjah) just five months after ariving to the Fleet Marine Corps as a police advisor.
I returned home and did exaclty what you would expect a police office to do. Responded to calls, performed traffic enforcment, and enforced the laws on base in Camp Lejeune and New River Air Station.
In 2014 I deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait to perform Customs enforcement for troops returning from the forward war zones. While in Kuwait I began to run. I never hated running nor was I a running fanatic. The base had organized a Flag day 5k. Some fellow Marines and I figured it would be fun to run with American flags. We ran ever organized run there after with American flags.
I distinctly remember someone asking if I was going to run the Marine Corps Marathon. I laughed and said "Yeah right like that will ever happen"...
In February 2015 I signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon.
I trained hard and long through the hot coastal North Carolina weather.
On October 25th 2015 I charged up the hill leading to the Iwo Jima memorial and completed my first marathon.
I "walked" (more like limped... 26.2 miles is really far!) to the Finisher's Festival and I was approached by a young woman in a red shirt with three simple words on the back: Enriching Veterans Lives. The fact was that I was about to become a veteran.
She told me what Team RWB (Red White and Blue) was all about in one sentence. "Team RWB’s mission is to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity."
I joined the team just a few days later.
I encourage everyone to watch this video from Team RWB before donating.
I am running the 41st Marine Corps Marathon with Team RWB to help spread the word and the mission of Team RWB and to raise funds that go directly to veterans who need support in many different way.
These funds support physical programs for veterans to include fitness and training groups. They support equipment for those who were wounded and who may not be able to attain it through regular channels such as the Veteran Affairs such as special wheel chairs and hand crank cycles.
I ask that you take your time and visit the Team RWB website: http://www.teamrwb.org/
I greatly apprectiate your time and support.
